SHAH ALAM, Aug 15 — The Selangor contingent continued to lead the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026 standings after adding three more gold medals today, bringing its overall tally to seven golds.
The host state’s latest gold medals came from the men’s under-81kg judo, women’s beach volleyball and rhythmic gymnastics group exercise events.
Selangor also added one silver through gymnast Sam Lee Li Momoka and four bronze medals in rhythmic gymnastics, judo, taekwondo and cycling, while the women’s sepak takraw squad opened its team event campaign with a win.
Ashraf triumphs in under-81kg category
Muhammad Ashraf Md Khairuldin secured the gold medal in the men’s judo under-81kg category after defeating Terengganu’s Muhammad Amsyar Azizi by Ippon during the golden score period at IDCC Shah Alam.
The victory added to Selangor’s judo gold medal tally after Nur Sufia Arisha Mohamed Rasidi won the women’s under-44kg category yesterday.
Siblings fight back to clinch gold
Goh Yu Jie and Goh Yu Heng recovered from a 16-21 loss in the opening set of the women’s beach volleyball to defeat Pulau Pinang A 21-17, 15-11 in the next two sets.
The victory at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Beach Volleyball Court confirmed Selangor’s gold medal in the women’s event.
Five gymnasts deliver energetic performance
Selangor added to its gold medal tally after its rhythmic gymnastics squad won the group exercise event through Tang Sher Myn, Rache Chua Hui Xin, Lor Suen Nah, Ker Jia Wen and Gan Yi Xin.
The five gymnasts delivered a neat and energetic performance to overcome the challenge from other contingents, completing Selangor’s haul of three gold medals today.
In another event, gymnast Sam Lee Li Momoka won the silver medal after accumulating 95.350 points in the individual all-around event.
Four more bronze medals secured
Four bronze medals were contributed, including by Cebastian Chee Zhen Yi in the men’s under-66kg judo and Qisya Batrisyia Othman in the women’s Olympic cross-country (XCO) cycling event.
The two other bronze medals were won by Valerie Choy Xin in the women’s under-73kg taekwondo and Muhammad Israr in the men’s under-74kg category.
Women’s sepak takraw get off to winning start
The Selangor women’s sepak takraw squad opened its Group A team event campaign with a victory over Perlis at Arena MBSJ Puchong.
Selangor’s first regu, comprising Nurfarida Alifa Saiful Bahari, Norsabil Roslan and Syakira Nur Amani Norzai, lost 15-10, 5-15, 7-15 before the second regu bounced back with a 15-4, 15-2 victory.
SUKMA gripped by sad news
Amid the excitement of the Games, the SUKMA community was saddened by the death of Kelantan contingent official Syahizad Mohd Zahari, 49, who was accompanying the state’s chess team, following a heart attack last night.
The Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) staff member was found unconscious after the sports utility vehicle (SUV) he was driving crashed at Tonggak 10, Sungai Besar near Sabak Bernam at about 7.35pm.
The news was also shared on the official Facebook page of the Selangor 2026 SUKMA and Para SUKMA Secretariat, which conveyed its condolences to the deceased’s family.
