KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — A warehouse storing and distributing contraband suspected to have been operating for 14 years has been exposed when police raided it in Kapar, Selangor yesterday.
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Safety Department Wildlife Crime Control/Special Intelligence Investigations Bureau (WCB/PSK) commander Datuk Mohd Zaki Ashar said two Bangladeshi men working as a warehouse worker and a logistics company director were arrested during the 12.10pm raid, and RM5.9 million worth of contraband, including food products, cosmetics, healthcare products, cigarettes and liquor, were seized.
“Preliminary investigations revealed the warehouse is believed to have been operating for about 14 years and used to temporarily store products from China before they are sent to customers throughout the country,” he said in a statement today.
The items seized included 167,526 boxes of Chinese food products estimated at RM3.9 million, beauty and healthcare products from China valued at RM1.54 million, 32,200 cigarettes of various brands valued at RM304,612, and 149 boxes of liquor valued at RM129,914.41.
The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, Section 6(1)(c) and 55B of the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Food Regulations 2009, Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984, and the Poisons Act 1952.
In a related development, Zaki said they launched 234 raids throughout the country from January 1 until August 14 this year, resulting in 409 arrests and seizures totalling an estimated RM311.03 million.
