BANGKOK, Aug 12 — A Malaysian citizen travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Hokkaido, Japan, passed away during transit at the Suvarnabhumi Airport on Monday (August 10).
The Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok said the 53-year-old man from Kedah was pronounced dead at a hospital in the city on the same day at 12.26am.
Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah said the victim suffered a heart attack while transiting in Bangkok.
“The victim was brought to a hospital in Bangkok before the death certificate was issued, confirming that he died of a heart attack.
“The victim’s remains were claimed by family members who were on the same flight,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Zaidi added that autopsies are not legally required in Thailand if a victim’s family wish for it not to be performed.
All paperwork was completed yesterday evening with assistance from the embassy before the victim’s remains were brought home via the Bukit Kayu Hitam land crossing.
He said the remains arrived in Malaysia at 10am today.
