JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 11 — The Johor police have busted a drug trafficking syndicate following the arrest of two men and the seizure of various types of drugs worth RM8.49 million in two separate raids in the Seri Alam area on Wednesday (August 5).
Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the raids were conducted at an apartment in Masai and a terrace house in Taman Ehsan Jaya at 10.30am.
The first raid, at the apartment, led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man believed to be the caretaker of a drug storage facility, while another 34-year-old man, believed to be an aide to the syndicate’s mastermind and responsible for paying the caretaker’s salary, was arrested at the terrace house.
“Upon inspecting the apartment, we seized 132,600 Erimin 5 pills, 53,000 ecstasy pills, 290 packets of ecstasy powder, 13 packets of ketamine, and two packets of MDMA powder, weighing 96.76kg in total,” he said during a media conference at the Johor police headquarters today.
The police also seized four cars: a Honda City Hatchback, a Toyota Vellfire, a BMW M4, and a Proton Saga, as well as an EZI RAY 01 motorcycle and RM100,000 in cash.
Rahaman added that the syndicate, which had been active in distributing drugs to the local market since May, used a guarded and gated apartment as a storage facility. The police are intensifying efforts to track down its mastermind.
The two suspects, who have previous criminal records, have been remanded for a week starting on Thursday (August 6), and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
