KUCHING, Aug 11 — The number of areas in Sarawak recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings due to transboundary haze increased to 11 this morning.
Based on data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), the affected areas are Serian (189), Samarahan (170), Kuching (166), Bintulu (159), Samalaju (156), Mukah (154), Sibu (154), Sarikei (153), Sri Aman (152), Miri (137) and the Miri Industrial Training Institute (ILP) (116).
An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are classified as hazardous.
API data is updated hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
