SHAH ALAM, Aug 9 — The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) held the PKNS Group Mingle Walk yesterday in conjunction with its 62 anniversary on August 1, to bring staffers closer and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Around 700 participants, comprising PKNS and state subsidiary staff, walked 2.8km in a loop, starting and ending at Galeria SA Sentral here.
PKNS corporate services senior general manager Sapna Turmidi said the walk not only gathers PKNS Group staffers for a healthy activity, but also brings the workforce closer to strategic partners.
“Some even brought their families along with them for this (event). Indirectly, everyone got to know one another. This would positively impact moves to strengthen PKNS. This programme allows all PKNS staffers to work together as a group,” she told Media Selangor.
The event began at 7.30am with a light exercise session, joined by PKNS Group chief executive officer Dato’ Mahmud Abbas, Selangor Women’s Charity and Welfare Organisation (PEKAWANIS) president Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad.
Participants walked along Persiaran Perbandaran, Persiaran Tasik, Persiaran Dato’ Menteri and Persiaran Damai before returning to Galeria SA Sentral, which took them past several Shah Alam city development and rejuvenation projects, including Plaza Perangsang that is being transformed into a Grand Mercure hotel, SACC Mall, PKNS Complex, and Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC).

PKNS is also upgrading pedestrian infrastructure in these areas, including paths along Jalan Majlis and Persiaran Dato’ Menteri, to improve urban comfort and connectivity.
According to Sapna, the Mingle Walk was made merrier with a feast after the activity, as 10 stalls by PKNS subsidiaries were erected to offer various free fare such as nasi lemak, cendol, ice cream, coffee, and laksam.
“After reaching the finish line, participants were treated to various types of food and drink. There were 10 stalls opened by PKNS subsidiaries that offered (food) for free, like ice cream, coffee and laksam,” she said.
She added that although this was only the second time the event has been held, response has been highly encouraging and is motivation to continue it in the future.
“From last year, we saw that all participants were so excited. Some brought their families and children to join this healthy activity. Besides meeting colleagues, it also brings families closer,” she said.
Meanwhile, for PKNS’ 62nd anniversary, various programmes have been scheduled throughout the month, including a corporate social responsibility (CSR) Ziarah Kasih visit to the National Cancer Institute in Putrajaya, to greet cancer patients and present contributions to the facility.
“Throughout this month, various (programmes) are scheduled. Among the main ones were the doa selamat and gratitude ceremony, which is an annual event, held (on Friday),” Sapna said.
