RS-2 execution to cost RM33.31b, says Amirudin

SHAH ALAM, Aug 7 — The five-year Second Selangor Plan (RS-2) is to cost an estimated RM33.31 billion to realise, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, with funds from federal and state governments, subsidiaries, and the private sector.

“This is so Selangor can become a model state to lead economic progress and sustainability in the ASEAN region,” he said in a statement today, after tabling the RS-2 at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here.

To stimulate economic activity under the RS-2, Amirudin said the state government sees major potential in the semiconductor, aerospace, digital and creative fields; food security; and Pulau Carey Third Port to expand Selangor’s economic value beyond RM600 billion.

“RS-2 (also) aims to create at least 166,200 new jobs, increase the median household income of Selangor residents to RM14,500 per month, reduce the unemployment rate to 2.2 per cent, and increase government service (digitalisation) to 85 per cent,” he added.

Amirudin explained the main challenges Selangor faces is responding to the global supply crisis, creating high-paying jobs, providing affordable housing, refreshing economic opportunities in new industries, improving the effectiveness of public transport, adapting to climate change, and building a more responsive government service system.

“The First Selangor Plan (RS-1) has provided very useful experience to this administration. Of the 16 indicators, the state government has exceeded targets in nine indicators.

“Among them, such as consistent economic growth of 7.5 per cent on average, a median household income of Selangor of RM10,726, a relative poverty rate that has decreased to 8.5 per cent, and maintaining the area of ​​permanent forest reserves of 31.7 per cent,” he added.

Amirudin said RS-2 contains six missions, 25 priority areas and 98 initiatives to drive the economy, balance regional development, create a caring and liveable state, develop productive human capital, and encourage an effective, people-friendly government.
