BANGKOK, Aug 7 — The student suspected of carrying out a deadly shooting at a school in Nonthaburi province today was believed to have killed his grandparents at their home before the attack.

Royal Thai Police Deputy Inspector-General and spokesman Lieutenant General Trairong Piwpan said preliminary investigation found the suspect had fired 26 rounds before arriving at the school.

Investigators later searched the suspect's home in Bang Bua Thong district and found the bodies of his grandfather and grandmother inside.

"Initial police investigations found a 9mm handgun and 34 additional rounds of ammunition outside the magazine," he told the media at the scene.

Trairong added that both grandparents had suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head, and investigators believed the suspect may have killed them before going to the school, although the exact sequence of events and timing remained under investigation.

Meanwhile, investigators are working to establish the motive and reconstruct the sequence of events in one of Thailand's deadliest recent school shootings.

The suspect, identified as a student at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, had opened fire at the school around 10am, killing six people — three teachers and three students, and injuring 15 others.

Police confirmed the suspected gunman was also found dead at the school.
