SHAH ALAM, Aug 7 — Selangor is aiming to increase the median household income from RM10,726 to RM14,500 to narrow the income gap amid rapid technological and economic changes, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
While tabling the Selangor Second Plan (RS-2) at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today, he said the state is targeting achievements in three macro indicators by 2030, under the plan’s Mission 4: Productive and Inclusive Human Capital.
The indicators are: to increase the state’s median household income from RM10,726 to RM14,500 per month, to reduce the unemployment rate to 2.2 per cent, and to record a gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 6.1 per cent.
He explained that with such rapid technological and economic changes, it is important for the state government to be agile and able to adapt so the income gap doesn’t widen.
“In Selangor, we want to avoid AI imperialism where only one or two countries have skills in new fields while other people become feeders to this new feudal system. This situation urges the state government to more actively seek spaces and opportunities based on the principle of lifelong learning.
“Thank God, we have successfully achieved the median household income target set in the First Selangor Plan (RS-1).
“We targeted a household income of RM9,290 per month, and according to the latest figures from the Statistics Department (DOSM), the median household income in Selangor is RM10,726 per month, which is almost RM1,500 above the target,” Amirudin said.
