Ismail Sabri expected to be charged at IJN today

SHAH ALAM, Aug 7 — Proceedings to charge former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, which are scheduled to take place at the Sessions Court here this morning, may instead be held at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

Ismail Sabri is expected to be charged over his asset declaration under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.

His lawyer, Ragunath Kesavan, confirmed the development when contacted by the media today.

"Yes, he is now at IJN. The deputy public prosecutor will apply for his plea to be recorded there," he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

However, all parties will first appear before the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, where the prosecution is expected to seek an order for the proceedings to be conducted at IJN.

Ismail Sabri had previously been called in several times to have his statement recorded as part of the MACC's investigation into his asset declaration.

The MACC also seized RM170 million in cash in various foreign currencies and confiscated 16 kilogrammes of gold bullion estimated to be worth RM7 million as part of its investigation into alleged corruption and money laundering involving the former prime minister.

The seizures were made during raids at residences and offices believed to have been used as ‘safe houses’, following investigations into four of Ismail Sabri's former senior officers who were arrested in February 2025.
