SHAH ALAM, Aug 5 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has denied that it is soliciting donations to maintain the Section 21 Muslim cemetery here, as claimed in a Facebook post that went viral recently.
The council distanced itself from the post, saying it is false.
“MBSA wishes to emphasise that the viral post on … Facebook about soliciting donations for maintenance works at the Section 21 Muslim cemetery in Shah Alam is false and has no link to MBSA,” it said in a Facebook post.
According to the MBSA statement, the Section 21 Muslim cemetery’s management and maintenance falls under its Environmental Health Department, which it said has never issued a request for public donations.
It also said it would lodge a report with the authorities as it views defamation seriously, and a report would allow follow-up action if any element of fraud or abuse is found.
MBSA advised the public to be cautious, check for verification, and refer to its official communication channels to obtain accurate information.
