SHAH ALAM, Aug 5 — The state government will introduce guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure the technology is developed and implemented in a more structured manner.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the guidelines will be introduced through an AI White Paper, which is being prepared in three phases: research, benchmarking, and the development of a Digital Government Playbook.
Once the preparation process is complete, the document will be tabled, including at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, for debate.
"This White Paper touches on our experience with social media. Previously, we had no guidelines, no ethical framework, and no understanding of its challenges, and many of us became victims of social media.
"Now AI has arrived, and we recognise both its benefits and its challenges. This White Paper will set out the entire AI field so that we understand the research behind it and the value it can bring.
"It will serve as Selangor's guideline on how we approach and interact with AI," he said in response to Bandar Baru Klang state assemblyman Dr Quah Perng Fei's query during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
Amirudin added that the state government also plans to launch seven new apps developed under the Teraju AI 2.0 programme as a continuation of its first phase to strengthen the efficiency of Selangor's administration.
The apps were developed by around 50 participants from seven government departments, who worked together to create AI-based solutions tailored to the needs of public service delivery.
"The second phase has been planned to enable these systems to go live and be used more widely. These seven new apps will be launched and introduced to the public.
"For example, Media Selangor now uses AI for searching news articles or specific topics. Previously, we did not use AI applications, but now we are using methods such as SEIRA (Selangor Intelligence Rakyat Assistance) and NISA," he said.
