KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 — The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) seized 323 bicycles of various types during a special operation to curb unlicensed business activities and public obstruction around Jalan Tembeling, Taman Tasik Titiwangsa recently.
The operation on July 23 targeted illegal bicycle rental businesses operated by foreign nationals.
It said their investigations found that the operators were not only conducting business without licences, but had also left equipment and various types of adult and children's bicycles in public areas around the recreational park to woo visitors.
"This irresponsible act caused obstructions along public walkways and created significant disturbance to the recreational park environment," DBKL said in a Facebook post today.
It also found that some operators had deliberately abandoned damaged and unusable bicycles in open spaces, behind business premises and around public toilets without making any effort to clear or dispose of them properly.
"Following inspections and enforcement action against five bicycle operators, DBKL seized and removed 323 adult and children's bicycles of various types found to be used in unlicensed operations.
"All seized bicycles were transported by enforcement lorries to DBKL’s storage facility for further documentation," DBKL said.
The enforcement action was taken under the Licensing of Hawkers (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) By-Laws 2016 and the Street, Drainage, and Building Act 1974.
It emphasised that such enforcement operations will continue at public hotspots across the capital to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and harmony of the city's environment.
Members of the public with complaints or feedback on public obstructions or illegal business activities are advised to submit them through DBKL's official complaint portal.
