SHAH ALAM, Aug 4 — The state’s gross domestic product (GDP) is projected to reach RM612.5 billion by 2030 under the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The target represents an increase of more than RM150 billion over five years from Selangor’s GDP of RM460.1 billion in 2025.

He said the projection is based on the state’s resilient economic fundamentals, sustained investment momentum, and continued economic activity.

“The Selangor government is targeting sustainable and competitive economic growth throughout the implementation of the RS-2 from 2026 to 2030.

“In line with this (objective), Selangor’s GDP is projected to grow to RM612.5 billion by 2030 after the completion of the RS-2,” Amirudin said during the question-and-answer session at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.

He added that Selangor is also on track to become Malaysia’s first state to record an economy valued at more than RM500 billion within the next two to three years.

"We will become the first state in Malaysia to have an economy worth half a trillion ringgit because our projected annual growth is around RM20 billion to RM25 billion.

“If we maintain that pace over the next two years, InsyaAllah (God willing), our economy will be worth RM500 billion,” Amirudin said.

For 2026, the state government is targeting a GDP growth of 6.3 per cent, which he described as realistic despite a more moderate global outlook.

The target was benchmarked against the International Monetary Fund’s July 2026 World Economic Outlook, which projected global growth of 3.4 per cent and Malaysia’s at 4.7 per cent.

"Selangor's GDP growth target of 6.3 per cent is based on the state's strong economic fundamentals, supported by continued investment momentum and economic activities," Amirudin said.

Earlier, the Menteri Besar said that Selangor remains Malaysia’s largest contributor to the national economy in 2025, with a GDP of RM460.1 billion, accounting for 26.5 per cent of the country’s total economic activity. The state also recorded a 6.3 per cent growth, outperforming the national rate.

The RS-2 is scheduled to be tabled during the ongoing State Legislative Assembly sitting.
