KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — Orange Economy Consortium (OEC) will collaborate with the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council to launch a six-month AI-Driven Micro Film Industry Training Programme aimed at equipping local talent to produce internationally competitive creative content.
In a statement today, OEC chairman Datuk Kamil Othman also welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of the Madani Government’s initiative to provide a three-month free subscription to AI apps for 100,000 youth aged between 18 and 30 who complete learning modules on the Rakyat Digital platform.
He described the initiative as a strategic step towards accelerating Malaysia’s AI transformation in line with the National AI Aspirations 2030, while ensuring inclusive access to AI technology.
“AI mastery must translate into the creation of high-value creative content capable of generating new economic opportunities for the country.
“It is time for Malaysia to harness AI as a catalyst for developing creative content while ensuring that cultural values, national identity and ethics remain at the core of every innovation,” he said.
On the training programme, Kamil said it would provide intensive training for TVET graduates in AI-assisted scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, visual effects, digital content creation, intellectual property (IP) management and content production for streaming platforms.
“The programme will focus on producing microfilms and short video content for mobile platforms, featuring narratives that highlight the history, culture, values and civilisation of the Malay Archipelago as key elements of Malaysian content.
“To support the initiative, OEC will utilise SIARAYA, a local streaming platform, to publish and commercialise participants’ productions,” he said.
Kamil said content development would be powered by the OKSS AI Workflow, an AI-based knowledge management system designed to accelerate script development, content management, copyright administration and analytics.
“Through this ecosystem, participants will not only gain technical skills but also have the opportunity to develop their own intellectual property for commercialisation in the film, drama, over-the-top (OTT), animation and digital media industries,” he said.
Kamil said the government’s efforts to expand access to AI should be complemented by the development of a content economy ecosystem capable of creating new employment opportunities for young people.
He said OEC is developing the National Orange Economy Blueprint, which will serve as a strategic framework for Malaysia’s digital content industry, covering the Book-to-Screen ecosystem, cross-media marketplace, AI content creation, intellectual property economy and creative talent development through collaboration between the government, industry and educational institutions.
“OEC believes AI development in Malaysia must be guided by the principle of human-centred technology and that technological progress should go hand in hand with human development, cultural preservation and the strengthening of national identity,” he said.
Kamil added that this aligns with the orange economy goal of positioning creative content not only as an economic driver but also as a platform for strengthening Malaysia’s national narrative while supporting Anwar’s view that advances in AI must not erode religion, culture and society’s moral values.
