SHAH ALAM, July 28 — Educational institutions must align their curricula with developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies to ensure graduates possess the skills needed by future industries, said human resources executive councillor Papparaidu Veraman.
He said the changing employment landscape requires the education system to keep pace with technological advancements to produce a more competitive workforce.
Papparaidu also expressed confidence that university curricula would undergo significant changes over the next five years to meet the demands of an increasingly technology-driven job market.
"Every subject and curriculum at educational institutions will place greater emphasis on AI and advanced technologies in line with current industry needs, including the integration of digital skills to produce graduates who are better prepared for the future job market.
"At the same time, educational institutions must ensure students not only possess academic knowledge but also acquire the skills required by employers," he told Media Selangor.
JobCare exposes youths to high-income careers
Papparaidu said Selangor residents are fortunate that the state government provides platforms such as the JobCare Selangor Career Carnival, which exposes jobseekers to high-income employment opportunities.
He said the programme not only helps jobseekers secure employment but also enables them to better understand the skills required in high-growth sectors.
Under the 2026 Selangor Budget, the state government has allocated RM1 million for the initiative to help reduce unemployment while strengthening skills development and certification programmes.
"Such exposure is important so that young people can make more informed career choices based on market needs, while understanding sectors with strong growth potential and better income prospects.
"Family support is also crucial to ensure the younger generation is prepared for changes in the workplace brought about by AI, automation and digital technologies," he added.
STDC developing Teraju AI 2.0
Meanwhile, the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) is developing Teraju AI 2.0, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year to strengthen the integration of AI into education and skilled workforce development.
STDC chief executive officer Harizal Hamid said the application, which focuses on the education sector, builds on the original Teraju AI initiative introduced last year.
He added that STDC is also transforming its administrative systems through the latest version to improve management productivity and enhance AI-driven skilled workforce development.
