Moderate earthquakes strike Philippines, Tonga and Vanuatu

BEIJING, July 28 — A series of moderate earthquakes struck the Philippines, Tonga and Vanuatu, Xinhua reported.

In Mindanao, Philippines, a magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck at 11.06 pm local time last night, according to the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences.

The epicentre, at a depth of 10km, was initially located at latitude 7.70 degrees north and longitude 126.74 degrees east.

In Tonga, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck south of the country at 11.12 pm local time last night, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The epicentre, at a depth of 10km, was initially located at latitude 24.78 degrees south and longitude 175.26 degrees west.

Meanwhile, in Vanuatu, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck the archipelago at 8.10 pm local time last night, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences said.

The epicentre, at a depth of 10km, was initially located at latitude 14.52 degrees south and longitude 168.07 degrees east.
