SINGAPORE, July 27 — Singapore's Internal Security Department (ISD) has detained three self-radicalised youths under the Internal Security Act 1960 (ISA) in separate cases involving plans to carry out attacks in the republic.
Home Minister Shanmugam Kasiviswanathan said the three youths, aged 15, 19, and 14, were planning mass-casualty attacks at different schools as well as an Army base.
The 14-year-old boy was suspected of being radicalised by Composite Violent Extremism through online first-person shooter games on Roblox and by consuming violent content online.
"He wanted to conduct a mass-casualty stabbing attack at his secondary school, and he wanted to use a knife from home.
"He was going to livestream his attack, pledge allegiance to ISIS, and then take his own life," he said during a media conference today.
Meanwhile, the second case involved a 15-year-old male student who had consumed large amounts of extremist content and planned to carry out a mass-casualty attack in Singapore in support of ISIS.
The third case involved a 19-year-old male identified as Tan Jun Jie, who had planned two attacks targeting Singapore Armed Forces officers at Sembawang Air Base and LGBTQ students at his own school.
Shanmugam added that he also attempted to conduct cyber attacks against websites of Muslim organisations which he thought were deviant.
According to ISD, all three self-radicalised male Singaporean youths were separately issued Orders of Detention under the ISA in April, May and June 2026, respectively.
"Though their cases are not related, all three were self-radicalised online by violent extremist ideologies and had made preparations to conduct local attacks," it said.
