SHAH ALAM, July 25 — The fire that broke out at the Selangor Wholesale Market in Seri Kembangan on Thursday (July 23) night has not affected operations, with business activities continuing as usual.
The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) said the fire occurred at the far end of the wholesale market and did not involve the main building where daily operations and business activities are carried out.
Based on the information from the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the blaze was brought fully under control at approximately 6am.
"Firefighting operations at the scene were concluded at 6pm on the same day. The Selangor Wholesale Market has now been declared safe, and daily operations are continuing as normal," it said in a statement today.
To ensure the incident is managed effectively, PKPS has also activated a 24-hour Crisis Management Centre to monitor developments and coordinate follow-up actions.
It is also working closely with the relevant authorities to assist in the investigation into the incident.
The corporation also expressed its appreciation to JBPM and all agencies involved for their swift response in containing and extinguishing the fire.
"The public is advised not to spread speculation or unverified information regarding the incident. Instead, they should allow the authorities to carry out a thorough investigation," PKPS said.
The fire involved Block B4 of the venue, a 100-foot by 100-foot Class B building housing three premises: a catering equipment and kitchenware shop, an egg supplier, and a hardware store.
Previously, 68 JBPM personnel supported by 16 fire engines took part in the firefighting operation, with assistance from firefighters from 13 fire stations, including Bukit Jalil, Presint 7, Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Petaling Jaya, Bangi, KLIA, Keramat, Hang Tuah, Hartamas, Cyberjaya, Bukit Jelutong, Subang Jaya, and Damansara.
The operation was also supported by 67 members from 11 volunteer fire brigades, as well as personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police, the Subang Jaya City Council, and the Selangor Wholesale Market's security team.
