SHAH ALAM, July 23 — The victim in a high-profile kidnapping case involving a RM7 million ransom demand, who was rescued in Shah Alam on Saturday, has been detained 60 days for his alleged involvement in a drug trafficking syndicate.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the 44-year-old man is being held under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 (LLPK).
“He will be detained under the LLPK for 60 days while further investigations are carried out into his involvement in drug trafficking activities,” he told a press conference here today, as reported by Harian Metro.
Hussein also said investigators are examining several aspects of the case, including the man’s whereabouts before the kidnapping, individuals associated with him, as well as the source of his income and assets.
He added that the investigation aims to determine the extent of the allegations linking the man to drug trafficking operations.
Yesterday, it was reported that the man had been detained by NCID under the LLPK 1985 after investigators uncovered elements of drug trafficking in the case.
In a related development, police arrested two local men in their 30s, including a former police officer who was dismissed from the force in 2023 over a drug-related offence.
Both arrests are believed to be linked to the kidnapping case.
Earlier reports said five local men and a local woman, aged between 30 and 46, were arrested within 48 hours after allegedly kidnapping the victim and demanding RM7 million in ransom for his release.
