Arab League firmly backs Saudi Arabia over Houthi threats

CAIRO, July 22 — Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Nabil Fahmy has affirmed his full solidarity with and support for Saudi Arabia in the face of anything that could undermine its security, stability or sovereignty.

He made the remarks following statements issued by the so-called military spokesperson of the Houthi terrorist militia, which included what he described as false accusations and threats directed at the Kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

In a statement, Fahmy described the remarks as a serious and unacceptable escalation that would fuel tensions in the region and undermine efforts aimed at de-escalation and promoting security and stability.

He also called on the Houthi militia to refrain from escalatory rhetoric and avoid any actions or statements that could further heighten tensions, stressing that prioritising dialogue and adhering to regional and international efforts to reach a comprehensive political settlement to the Yemeni crisis remain the only path to achieving security and stability in Yemen and the region.

In addition, Fahmy reaffirmed that the Kingdom’s security and territorial integrity are an integral part of the Arab national security system, reiterating the League of Arab States’ support for all legitimate measures taken by Saudi Arabia to protect its national security and safeguard its territorial integrity, in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.
