Azizulhasni targets memorable farewell in Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

SHAH ALAM, July 20 – National track cycling star Datuk Azizulhasni Awang is determined to deliver his best performance in what could be his final appearance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, on Thursday.

The 38-year-old will compete in the men's keirin and individual sprint events, marking the end of his Commonwealth Games journey after spending years representing Malaysia on the international stage.

More affectionately known as The Pocket Rocketman among his fans, Azizulhasni said he has done everything possible in his preparations and is now leaving the outcome in God's hands.

"Whatever the result at these Commonwealth Games, I will always be proud of myself. From a village boy with big dreams to representing my country on the biggest stages in the world, this has been a journey that I will always be grateful for.

"This will be my final appearance at the Commonwealth Games. I have done everything I could to prepare, and now I leave the rest to the decree of Allah," he said in a Facebook post.

Azizulhasni is still chasing his first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medal. His best achievements at the Games remained at two bronze medals.

He first claimed bronze in the team sprint at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi before winning another bronze in the keirin event at the 2014 Glasgow edition.

The athlete also reflected on the discipline required of an elite athlete, saying they must always be prepared to face any challenge in the pursuit of peak performance.

Azizulhasni added that the sacrifices, discipline, and consistency that have defined his career have made the journey especially meaningful.

"Whatever happens, I will step onto the track with gratitude and give everything that I have," he said.
