SHAH ALAM, July 16 — Pakatan Harapan will employ a different campaigning strategy for the Negeri Sembilan election from the one for the Johor polls, said Harapan election director Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the approach was adapted to the coalition’s position as the state’s incumbent administration, and considers the backgrounds of each area and candidate.
He added that the main focus is to bolster support among young voters, based on insight data for each channel.
“God willing, we will streamline support, get closer to young voters as the (voter appeal) percentage for this group can still be learnt and improved based on each channel’s insight data.
“In Johor, we were in the frame of an opposition set out to grab (seats), so our actions and campaigning were more aggressive to suit the tone and mood. In Negeri Sembilan, we are looking at our suitability, backgrounds, localities, and candidates.
“But I believe we’re still on the right and strong track to defend Negeri Sembilan,” he told a press conference last night before a Harapan strategy meeting for the Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Sarawak polls.
As new Harapan election director, Amirudin said preparations for the Negeri Sembilan election will be ramped up and combine early efforts by incumbent menteri besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
“This is so our steps are more streamlined; messages from Parti Keadilan Rakyat, Parti Amanah Negara and DAP are orderly and systematic. A neater delivery for the Negeri Sembilan people,” he explained.
Nominations for the Negeri Sembilan election are on Saturday, with polling day on August 1. Thirty-six seats are being contested.
At the last state polls, Harapan commandeered 17 seats while Barisan Nasional won 14, with Perikatan Nasional taking the remaining five.
