SHAH ALAM, July 15 — The Selangor government is holding practical training sessions and disaster simulations to prepare for floods, said state executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi.
He said various simulations have been run since January, coordinated by the State Disaster Management Unit (UPBN) and authorities at the district and community levels.
“This training (helps) village heads and communities (understand) roles they can play in the event of a disaster. Preparations started at the beginning of the year; we are not waiting until two to three months before the Northeast Monsoon,” he added when met after launching the Ex Urban Falcon air disaster practical training programme at Dewan Jubli Perak here today.
Najwan said UPBN is also monitoring climate changes and current conditions through the Disaster Control Centre, which operates around the clock.
“The monitoring doesn’t just focus on climate and weather changes, but covers tectonic structures and movements.
“This includes preparations in the event of incidents like earthquakes, as has happened in several other areas,” Najwan added.
