SELATI accelerates state drone, UAV ecosystem with strategic deals

SHAH ALAM, July 13 — Selangor Aviation & Technology Innovation Sdn Bhd (SELATI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation), or MBI, has forged strategic partnerships to develop the state’s drone, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) ecosystem.

In a statement dated June 26, SELATI said it signed two memoranda of collaboration (MOC) aimed at strengthening ecosystem development, technology adoption and enabling infrastructure for the fast-growing aerospace sector.

“The first MOC was signed with SELGEM Sdn Bhd, while the second is a tripartite collaboration involving SELATI, GTP Network Sdn Bhd, and EdgePoint Towers Sdn Bhd.

“Together, these strategic partnerships will strengthen ecosystem development, technology adoption, and enabling infrastructure to support the growth of the drone, AAM, and broader Low-Altitude Economy (LAE) sectors in Selangor,” SELATI said.

Both MOCs were signed at the Selangor Aerospace Forum on June 26 at MAEPS in Serdang.

“Under the collaborations, the parties will also explore opportunities to develop and deploy innovative drone and AAM solutions, facilitate industry and stakeholder engagement, and support the testing and implementation of emerging technologies and use cases,” it added.

SELATI said the initiatives are aligned with the Selangor Aerospace Action Plan 2020-2030 and Malaysia’s broader agenda to advance its aerospace and hi-tech industries.

They also represent a significant milestone in developing Selangor’s LAE, where drone technologies and future air mobility solutions are expected to create new economic opportunities, enhance public service delivery and improve connectivity across multiple industries, it added.

As part of the state’s broader strategy, SELATI and Invest Selangor Bhd will spearhead investment promotion efforts to attract quality domestic and foreign direct investment, positioning Selangor as Southeast Asia’s leading hub for drone technologies, AAM and other emerging LAE industries.

“These partnerships mark an important step in realising Selangor’s (LAE) vision, where drones and advanced air mobility become drivers of new economic growth, better public services, and stronger connectivity across industries,” state executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah, who was present at the signing ceremony, said in the SELATI statement.

In a Facebook post on July 1, he expressed hope that the partnerships would provide better jobs for Selangor’s youth.

Meanwhile, SELATI chief executive officer Zannifa Azura Ahmad in the original statement said the collaborations would strengthen Selangor’s position as a drone and AAM development hub.

"By bringing together complementary capabilities and resources, we can accelerate the growth of the ecosystem and unlock new opportunities for industry and society,” she added.
