KAJANG, July 13 — The 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para SUKMA 2026 torch run at Kajang Stadium last night received an encouraging response, attracting more than 1,000 participants.
Selangor youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said Kajang was the eighth of 12 destinations scheduled for the torch run series ahead of the biennial games.
“At the torch run for the Hulu Langat district and Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) tonight, we received an encouraging response from participants, who completed a three-kilometre run.
“After this, only four locations remain in the series, namely Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Kuala Langat and Sepang,” he told reporters after flagging off the event.

Earlier, a symbolic ceremony saw Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari hand over the torch to Kajang Municipal Council president Nazli Md Taib before the run began.
Also present were Selangor SUKMA Secretariat chief executive officer Dato’ Mohd Yazid Sairi and Selangor State Sports Council (MSN) executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi.

Six events under MPKj
In a related development, Najwan said six sporting events would be held under MPKj’s coordination during SUKMA Selangor 2026, with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) selected as the competition venue.
“Among the sports to be held in the Hulu Langat district and under MPKj’s administration are boxing, softball, rhythmic gymnastics, gymnastics and weightlifting,” he said.
SUKMA Selangor 2026 is scheduled to take place from August 15 to 24, while Para SUKMA 2026 will be held from September 5 to 14.
