SHAH ALAM, July 7 — More than 1,300 jobs will be provided in Hulu Selangor, with 80 per cent of them, especially in the skilled sector, to be available to locals, said state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.
He added that the opportunity came about thanks to a deal between Berjaya Property Bhd and Chinese firm Wanli Tire Co Ltd to build an automotive tyre manufacturing plant in the district.
“Some have asked why we brought (such a) large investment to a rural district. Our answer is that development in Selangor isn’t just for city centres.
“Whether you live in cities or villages, this state will grow with you,” he said at the deal signing ceremony at Berjaya Times Square Hotel Kuala Lumpur last night.

Ng said the plant wouldn’t just offer jobs, but cement Selangor’s position as a regional hub for the automotive component industry.
He added that the state government’s proactivity helped realise the investment in a short period and ensure its benefits reach residents.
“Investments must reach (the people), same with their benefits, in local jobs, local businesses, and local supply chains. For Hulu Selangor residents, this is just the start,” he said.
Previously, he reportedly said Hulu Selangor would receive new RM1.6 billion investments in the form of two high-impact projects that are expected to boost the district’s economic development.
Ng said the investments involve the construction of a second overseas Wanli Tire factory and a materials manufacturing project for lithium batteries by XTC New Energy.
