Banting stabbing victim’s father says girl knew attacker

SHAH ALAM, July 6 — A student who was stabbed at a secondary school in Banting today is believed to have been familiar with the suspect as they were classmates last year, said the victim’s father Mohd Firuz Ibrahim.

Firuz, 42, however believes his 15-year-old daughter was not the primary target of the attack, Harian Metro reported.

He said his daughter has never complained about issues with the suspect, who is of the same age, or other students prior to the incident.

“They know each other. They were classmates last year,” he told reporters today when met at Banting Hospital, where his daughter is being treated.

Firuz said his daughter may have been a victim of circumstances as she happened to be closest to the suspect during the attack.

“I believe my daughter was not the target. Perhaps she (suspect) was targeting someone else, but my daughter happened to be closest to her. It could also be because my daughter has a bigger build, so she was not able to escape in time.”

According to Firuz, his daughter sustained about 14 stab wounds, mostly on her back, while also suffering injuries to her left lung.

He said doctors also told him his daughter is stable and able to speak.

“When I arrived, her condition was quite bad. Not long after, they took her for a scan to identify the extent of her injuries. Her left lung was injured, but she was conscious and able to speak.”

Earlier today, it was reported that a schoolgirl was injured after allegedly being stabbed by another girl at a school in Banting.

The Selangor State Education Department (JPNS) confirmed the incident and said police have arrested the suspect.

Meanwhile, media reports said the suspect, who is believed to have attended the same school, had been absent for several months for medical treatment.

The reports also said the suspect entered the school compound through the main gate, and, after the incident, was calmed by teachers while the school administration called police.

The suspect was then arrested, and police seized a knife believed to have been used in the attack.

The motive of the attack and full chronology of the incident is still under investigation.
