KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 — A strong earthquake measuring magnitude 6.2 struck Halmahera, Indonesia, at 10.31 am today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said in a statement that the earthquake occurred at coordinates 1.8 degrees North and 127.4 degrees East, about 116 km north of Ternate, Indonesia.
The department said the earthquake struck at a depth of 127 km.
"An initial assessment found that there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia," the statement said.
