ONSA, school safety on Dewan Rakyat agenda today

KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 — Subsidiary instruments under the Online Safety Act 2025 (ONSA), student safety, and aid for micro-entrepreneurs affected by the West Asia crisis are among key issues to be raised in the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to the Order Paper on the Parliament website, during Minister’s Question Time, Rodziah Ismail (Harapan-Ampang) will ask Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil for details on 10 subsidiary instruments, including regulations and guidelines, being developed under the ONSA, covering their regulatory objectives, key provisions, scope and latest development status.

Roslan Hashim (PN-Kulim Bandar Baharu) will seek details from Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek on student safety at schools and measures to ensure schools stay free of accidents, bullying and other threats.

Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy (BN-Kalabakan) will ask Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to outline immediate measures to assist micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) affected by rising logistics costs and supply chain disruptions due to the prolonged West Asia crisis.

During the question-and-answer session, Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong (BN-Ayer Hitam) will seek an update from Transport Minister Anthony Loke on the Johor Elevated Autonomous Rapid Transit (E-ART) project.

Road safety will also be highlighted, with Zakri Hassan (PN-Kangar) asking Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi to justify smart lanes along several stretches of the North-South Expressway (PLUS), with regard to motorcyclists’ safety and convenience.

Datuk Shahelmey Yahya (BN-Putatan) will ask Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad for assurance that the government’s fiscal adjustments won’t compromise public health facilities’ service delivery and development in Sabah.

Meanwhile, Riduan Rubin (Independent-Tenom) will ask Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to outline cybersecurity risk assessment moves should a social media ban for under-16s be introduced.

Also scheduled for the sitting is the tabling of the Competition (Amendment) Bill 2026 for second reading by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

The Second Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament will sit until July 16.
