KLANG, June 28 — The Jom ‘Hike’ Sihat Fest 2026 organised by the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) should be held regularly for its role in promoting healthier lifestyles and improving public awareness of preventive healthcare, participants said.

Private sector employee Nurfatin Qistina Azman, 35, said that besides providing recreational activities for families, the programme also gave the public the opportunity to undergo free health screenings.

“I came here to support my child, who enjoys hiking, but I didn’t expect there to be so many interesting activities. While waiting for my child, my husband and I took the opportunity to check our health.

“At the same time, while spending quality time with the family, we were also able to find out our blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure and overall health status. This programme is truly beneficial,” she told Media Selangor.

Participant Emy Low, 58, said the programme provided her and her friends with the opportunity to take part in various health-related activities, including hiking, aerobic exercises and zumba.

“We started early in the morning. We joined all the activities, including the free health screenings. We always look forward to programmes like this because maintaining good health becomes even more important as we grow older."

Earlier, the programme, held at Taman Rakyat, was officiated by Klang Mayor Dato’ Abdul Hamid Hussain and received an encouraging response, attracting more than 2,000 participants of all ages.

The programme was organised in collaboration with Sri Kota Specialist Medical Centre, which provided free health screenings and counselling, including mammogram screenings and cervical cancer tests.

Also held were an organ donation campaign, balloon art activities, family games and a lucky draw offering a variety of attractive prizes.
