SHAH ALAM, June 27 — An LRT station near the National Shooting Range Subang is facilitating athletes’ commute to the training centre, thus easing the Selangor contingent’s preparations ahead of the Malaysian Games (SUKMA).
Selangor shooting contingent patron Dr Fahmi Ngah said the location of the range near the Ara Damansara LRT station allows athletes to travel to training sessions.
“Most athletes come through the LRT station and transport is provided from the LRT station to the shooting range so they may attend training.
“Most of them are still schooling, so training is done after school and on weekends on a tight schedule,” he told Media Selangor, adding that site visits have found that athletes are on track with their training and are satisfied with the shooting range.
Fahmi said the state government has spent RM7 million to upgrade the shooting range to meet world standards.
He added that the Selangor contingent is preparing for three events — rifle, free pistol, and pistol.
He also expressed appreciation for their experienced coaches, including past international champions, who are committed to guide Selangor’s young athletes.
Fahmi said he hopes Selangor athletes do their best throughout this SUKMA edition and show high sportsmanship as hosts by respecting athletes from other contingents.
