Motorcycle-lorry crash kills one, injures two in Hulu Selangor

SHAH ALAM, June 26 — A 29-year-old factory worker died after his motorcycle collided with a lorry on Jalan Kuala Lumpur heading to Ipoh, police said.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Manimaran Muniandi said police received a 5.50am call yesterday about the crash, which occurred near the Antara Gapi intersection in Hulu Selangor.

Manimaran said initial investigations revealed the crash occurred at around 5.30am when the motorcyclist was travelling from Batang Kali to Rawang.

He said the motorcyclist is believed to have entered the opposite lane around a bend and collided with the oncoming lorry.

“The 59-year-old lorry driver reportedly attempted to swerve to the left of the road to distance (the vehicle) from the motorcyclist’s route, but the collision still happened in the lorry’s path before it veered into the motorcycle’s lane.

“The crash caused the motorcycle to fall in the middle of the road and be dragged by the lorry before the lorry crashed on the right side of the road,” he said in a statement posted to Facebook yesterday.

Manimaran said the lorry driver, who was pinned in the vehicle, was extricated by the Fire and Rescue Department.

“The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, before being taken to the Forensic Unit of Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital for a post-mortem.

“The lorry driver and attendant sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Selayang Hospital,” he added.

Manimaran said the investigation is being conducted under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged those with information on the crash to call traffic investigating officer Mohammadi Bin Mat Abu@Ramli at 03-6064 1222 or visit their local police station.
