KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 — The BUDI Madani targeted fuel subsidy programme has benefited 14 million Malaysians and involved 11.1 billion litres of fuel as of May 31, the Finance Ministry (MOF) said.
MOF said sales value totalled RM22.1 billion, of which RM11.2 billion was borne by the government as a subsidy.
It said that since the West Asia crisis broke out, BUDI Madani subsidy spending has increased threefold on average compared with the same period in 2025.
“The government will continue to monitor the BUDI Madani programme and make appropriate improvements from time to time to ensure assistance is distributed fairly, effectively and in a targeted manner to those who truly need it,” MOF said in a written reply to the Dewan Rakyat, published on the Parliament website today.
MOF was responding to Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran) about the number of people who have benefited from BUDI Madani as of May, the subsidy amount disbursed, the application approval rate, and measures taken to ensure all eligible groups receive the aid.
The ministry emphasised that no application is required to receive BUDI Madani because eligibility criteria are clear — recipients must be Malaysians holding valid MyKad and driving licences.
MOF said that to ensure the aid reaches target groups, the government has taken various measures, including by providing an eligibility and transaction verification portal, setting up the BUDI Madani customer service centre, and making ongoing announcements via various media channels.
“The government continues to make improvements based on usage data and feedback received,” MOF added.
