Dewan Rakyat to cover CRESS, foreign policy on Myanmar today

KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 — The Dewan Rakyat today will deliberate the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), the impact of the global energy crisis, and Malaysia’s foreign policy on Myanmar based on the Five-Point Consensus (5PC).

According to the Order Paper on the Parliament portal, Rodziah Ismail (Harapan-Ampang) will ask Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof about the status and number of industry participants in the CRESS during Minister’s Question Time.

She will also ask about findings of the System Access Charge (SAC) rate review and its implications on Malaysia’s aspiration to become a regional data centre hub, including operating costs for data centres, the Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP), and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman (PN-Bachok) will ask Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir to outline the National Economic Action Council’s (MTEN) response to rising job losses and business downsizing amid energy crises and global economic uncertainties, as well as achievements so far.

Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad (BN-Simpang Renggam) will pose a question to Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on fuel subsidy targeting standards, including the use of MyKad for diesel, and whether the 200-litre quota for both RON95 and diesel is adequate for consumers.

Meanwhile, during the question-and-answer session, William Leong Jee Keen (Harapan-Selayang) will question Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan on Malaysia’s foreign policy on Myanmar and the progress of the 5PC.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari (Harapan-Gombak) will ask Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo about measures to align state-level initiatives, such as the Selangor Dark Fibre Network, to ensure Malaysia’s data sovereignty.

Amirudin will also seek clarification on whether data sovereignty factors into Malaysia’s aspiration to become an AI-ready nation by 2030.

Datuk Idris Ahmad (PN-Bagan Serai) will request clarification from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the assessment of the Islamic Education curriculum in terms of student development, as well as coordination between the federal government and state Islamic Religious Councils to ensure quality Islamic education.

Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis (Warisan-Kota Belud) will call on Anwar to clarify the progress of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and the timeline for raising the number of parliamentary seats in Sabah and Sarawak to 35 per cent of total seats.

The Dewan Rakyat session will continue with a briefing by Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin on the report of health insurance premium and private hospital charge hikes, and their impact on public health, under the Finance Ministry, the Health Ministry, and Bank Negara Malaysia.

The House will then continue debating the Prisons (Amendment) Bill 2026.

The Second Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament is scheduled to sit until July 16.
