SHAH ALAM, June 22 — Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has returned as Opposition leader in the Dewan Rakyat, effective June 18, Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said.
The Larut Member of Parliament resumed the role after it was temporarily held by Kemaman MP Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar from May 21 to June 10.
“Yang Berhormat Larut (Hamzah) was the Opposition leader until May 20. After that, Yang Berhormat Kemaman (Ahmad Samsuri) served as Opposition leader from May 21 until June 10.
“Now, Yang Berhormat Larut has resumed the role of Opposition leader effective June 18. Congratulations to Larut,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
Johari also expressed appreciation to Ahmad Samsuri for his service during the period he held the position.
“I would like to thank Yang Berhormat Kemaman for his service as Opposition leader during that period and welcome Yang Berhormat Larut back to serve as Opposition leader,” he said.
Earlier, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang announced Hamzah’s appointment as Opposition leader during the RESET Malaysia Convention at Tapak Ekspo Kota Harmoni in Tanah Merah on June 13.
