PETALING JAYA, June 21 — Petaling Jaya has emerged as one of the best examples of modern urban development in Selangor by implementing smart city initiatives, sustainable development, and efficient mobility systems for the benefit of its residents.
State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said its status as a mature city is a benchmark for urban development that not only focuses on physical infrastructure but also on strengthening communities, local economic growth, and the quality of life of its residents.
“Petaling Jaya is among the earliest cities to embrace the Smart Selangor agenda. A wide range of digitalisation initiatives has been introduced by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to improve the efficiency of service delivery, enhance urban management, and expand public access to government services.
“The agenda being implemented today demonstrates that technology is not merely a tool for modernising cities, but an important instrument for improving the quality of life of the people,” he said.

Borhan was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 20th Anniversary Celebration of Petaling Jaya City at Laman MBPJ, along Jalan Yong Shook Lin, last night.
The councillor added that Petaling Jaya is also one of the key economic engines of Selangor and has become a leader in adopting technology and innovation to create a more efficient, safe, responsive, and people-friendly city.
“The presence of numerous local and international companies, higher education institutions, research centres, innovation hubs, and a rapidly growing services sector has made the city a catalyst for the state’s economic growth.
“For this reason, the state government and MBPJ continue to place strong emphasis on providing quality public facilities, adequate green spaces, inclusive recreational and sporting amenities, as well as community development programmes that enhance the well-being of the people,” he said.
