AI helped stop leakage of RM5.33m in Daya Kerjaya 2.0 funds — SOCSO

SHAH ALAM, June 18 — The Social Security Organisation (SOCO) has detected fraudulent claims under the Daya Kerjaya 2.0 incentive through the use of artificial intelligence (AI), preventing millions of ringgit from being siphoned, said its chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed.

SOCSO’s Anti-Fraud, Ethics and Integrity Division started assessments and investigations at the end of 2024, he said, as reported by a Sinar Harian.

He added that information on the case was submitted to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in August last year for further action.

“Swift action by the division successfully saved RM5.33 million. As of yesterday, RM1.26 million has been recovered after appropriate action was taken against the employers,” he said in a press conference at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya today, according to the local daily.

Daya Kerjaya 2.0 programme is a government wage subsidy initiative that provides RM1,500 per month for a maximum of six months for each employee hired by private employers and government-linked companies (GLCs).

The programme targets people with disabilities, individuals on parole, and senior citizens aged over 60.

Dr Azman said based on SOCSO’s information and monitoring, the fraudulent activities were carried out in a structured manner, where applications met the prescribed criteria, including registration with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) and a history of SOCSO contributions.

He added that SOCSO detected the fraud when employees were terminated after a six-month period. Investigations were then carried out with the aid of whistleblowers.

“Investigations were conducted, and it took eight months before the information was channelled to the MACC.

“We must improve the system and ensure there are no loopholes or space for certain parties to commit fraud,” Dr Azman said.
