SHAH ALAM, June 14 — Residents in Sungai Manggis, Banting, were left concerned this morning after a crocodile measuring more than three metres was spotted in a drain near a petrol station.
The Fire and Rescue Department’s assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received a distress call about the reptile at 9.07am.
A team from the Banting Fire and Rescue Station was immediately deployed to the location and arrived about five minutes later.
“The operation commander reported that a crocodile estimated to be 10 feet long, or more than three metres, was found in a drain near the road.
“The operation to capture the reptile was then carried out by firefighters who were at the location,” he said in a statement.
Eight personnel took part in the operation, assisted by a Fire and Rescue Team and a Hilux four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Mukhlis added that the operation was conducted to safeguard public safety because the crocodile was near a residential area frequented by locals.
“No casualties were reported in this incident,” he said.
