KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — The Health Ministry (MOH) is aiming to advance the country’s organ transplant agenda in a more progressive manner, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad.
He added that although hundreds of thousands of Malaysians have pledged to become organ donors on the MySejahtera app, thousands of patients are waiting for a miracle on transplant waitlists.
“The digital pledge we make is a sacred promise, but it requires heartfelt discussions with our closest family members.
“The support and consent of family members are key factors to ensure a donor’s noble wishes are respected to save the lives of those in need,” he said in a Facebook post today.
He also said he is thankful over a successful liver transplant at Tunku Azizah Hospital of a child, Muhammad Raif Rabbani, who has battled biliary atresia since infancy.
“After courageously fighting biliary atresia since infancy, he has now been discharged and allowed to return home. May young Raif be blessed with good health and one day contribute back to society,” he said.
Dzulkefly also expressed appreciation to the specialist team and healthcare workers at Tunku Azizah Hospital for the successful procedure. He paid tribute to the donor and their family for giving hope to other patients through organ donation.
He said the ministry is committed to ensuring the national medical landscape is guided by compassion and fairness towards a prosperous Malaysia Madani.
