KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) honorary president Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin has been entrusted with the role of head of delegation and representative to FIFA President Gianni Infantino at several venues during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.
Hamidin said Infantino had tasked him with ensuring the smooth running of matches in Los Angeles and San Francisco in his capacity as a FIFA Council member.
"This edition involves 16 venues spread across vast distances, and that is why I have been appointed head of delegation and FIFA president's representative for Los Angeles and San Francisco.
"My role includes monitoring matches at both venues from the group stage. I will be based in Los Angeles up to the quarter-finals and remain involved through to the semi-finals and final," he told Bernama recently.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup got underway this morning with Mexico taking on South Africa in the opening Group A match, which kicked off at 3 am Malaysia time.
The 2026 edition is the largest in the tournament's history, featuring 48 teams.
