KPKT reviewing Strata Management Act for future amendment

SHAH ALAM, June 11 — The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) is reviewing the Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757) and related regulations ahead of proposing amendments to the law.

Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said improvements to the law are necessary so strata management can move with the times.

“Act 757 on strata management … was (gazetted) in 2013. And now, based on increasing experience, more dynamic progress throughout the country, requires us to amend (the law).

“But we are at the reviewing stage. This convention will give us at the national housing department, specially the ministry, input on what else we should look into in our efforts to amend it.

“(Amending the law) is very important because at this time, we see that our country is moving more to strata housing with the increase in residents and, at the same time, very limited space,” she told Media Selangor today.

Earlier, when speaking at the Strata Conference 2026: Towards First-Class Strata Management event, held at Double Tree by Hilton here today, she said the Buildings Commission is reviewing the provision of allowance for strata management committee members to address imbalanced valuation criteria.

“The standard operating procedure enforced since June 3 also curbs risks of building maintenance funds shrinking due to unreasonable allowance rates.

“It is hoped that this SOP would minimise complaints of financial wrongdoing and ensure strata scheme governance remains sustainable and with integrity,” she added.

The Strata Conference 2026 gathered around 130 people involved in policymaking, government agencies, local authorities, industry, property development, joint management bodies, management corporations, management agents, and professional fields.

The conference, organised by the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS), discussed current strata management issues, challenges and directions, to achieve a better, more sustainable, and more competitive strata management system.
