KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has emphasised that economic pressure stemming from geopolitical tensions in West Asia must not erode the bonds of community unity.
Geopolitical tensions not only affected the countries involved but also impacted Malaysia through rising oil prices, supply chain disruptions, and increasingly high living costs.
"The rise in the price of goods and the pressure on daily costs have caused anxiety and concern among the community. However, we must ensure that this economic pressure does not erode the bonds of community unity," he said in a Facebook post today.
Earlier, Fadillah chaired the National Unity Advisory Council (MPPN) Meeting Number 1 of 2026.
He added that the MPPN also played a role in bringing the right narrative to the people to correct misconceptions, calm the situation, and encourage the community not to be easily influenced by social media provocations driven by economic pressures.
The Deputy Prime Minister also called on all MPPN members to continue working closely with the National Unity Ministry to preserve harmony and the integrity of national integration.
Meanwhile, Fadillah announced that the results of the MPPN meeting discussions would be brought before the Cabinet for information and approval in the near future.
