Man arrested for filming, verbally abusing police officer in Sentul

KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — The police arrested a 25-year-old local man early today for verbally abusing and recording a police officer who was issuing a traffic summons yesterday.

Sentul police chief ACP Basri Sagoni said the suspect was apprehended at a business premises along Jalan Dato Senu at 2.36am.

The arrest comes after an incident at 8.24am yesterday, when a police constable on patrol issued a summons to a Proton Prevé for a traffic violation.

"While the enforcement action was being taken, the vehicle owner approached the officer, recorded a video using his mobile phone, and provoked him by hurling profanities because he was dissatisfied with being penalised," he said in a statement today.

The initial investigations found that the suspect admitted to recording the officer, and the video is believed to have since gone viral on social media.

Basri added that they also seized a mobile phone and a SIM card believed to have been used in the incident.

The suspect's urine test was negative for drugs.

He has been remanded for three days until Thursday (June 11) to facilitate investigations under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties, and under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

"The public is advised not to make any speculations that could disrupt the ongoing probe. The Royal Malaysia Police sternly reiterates that any form of insult, threat, or act of obstructing public servants from carrying out their duties is a serious offence under the law," he said.
