KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — DAP has confirmed that it will field candidates in 17 seats in the upcoming Johor state election.

Its secretary-general Anthony Loke said the 17 seats comprise 10 seats the party won in the previous election, four seats it previously contested but lost, and an additional three new target seats.

“We have mentioned that we will defend all the seats that we won in the last election. We won 10 in the last election and contested 14. So, the four that we contested last round will be contested again.

“We are looking at an additional three other seats. So, all in, we are looking at contesting 17 seats,” he said during a media conference after launching the DAP 60 Years Journey Documentary in the Federal Territories today.

Loke added that DAP would also defend all 11 of its Negeri Sembilan state seats.

The decision to dissolve the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly was made by consensus among the Pakatan Harapan state leadership.

He also criticised claims by former Parti Keadilan Rakyat deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli that the dissolution was allegedly driven by pressure from DAP, describing the allegation as baseless.

“It is total nonsense to say that this is pressure from DAP...All in Harapan Negeri Sembilan, be it Keadilan, be it DAP, be it Amanah, are all for a dissolution,” he said.

Loke nevertheless assured that political dynamics and competition at the state level would not affect working relations or the functioning of the Federal government, which remains stable and continues to operate as usual.
