JAKARTA, June 4 — Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained Immigration and Corrections Deputy Minister Silmy Karim in connection with an investigation into alleged corruption involving the issuance of residency permits to foreign nationals.
Xinhua reported that KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said seven other suspects had also been named in the case, including current and former officials of the Immigration Directorate General.
The anti-graft agency said it had seized a number of assets as evidence, including vehicles and precious metals, and is continuing to investigate the case.
The probe expands an operation launched earlier this week that resulted in additional suspects being identified.
Authorities suspect the alleged corruption involved the processing of limited-stay permits and permanent-stay permits for foreign nationals.
