Businessman charged with being member of Geng TR

KUALA SELANGOR, June 4 — A businessman was charged in the Sessions Court today with being a member of an organised crime group known as 'Geng TR' between 2019 and 2024.

R. Ravindran, 46, was alleged to have committed the offence at a seafood restaurant in Jeram, Kuala Selangor.

According to the charge, he was accused of being a member of the organised crime group between November 2019 and May 3, 2024.

The charge, framed under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of not less than five years and not more than 20 years upon conviction.

No plea was recorded after the charge was read before Judge Nurul Mardhiah Mohammed Redza.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Lina Hanini Ismail, while the accused was represented by counsel Sean Dudley.

Earlier, Lina Hanini applied for Ravindran to be denied bail under the provisions of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 and requested that the case be transferred to the Klang High Court.

The court subsequently ordered the case to be transferred to the Klang High Court for further action, with the mention date to be fixed and notified by the court.

It is understood that the case will be heard at the Klang High Court, as proceedings involving several other individuals allegedly linked to Geng TR are already underway there.

Yesterday, Bernama reported that the police had arrested a wanted man in a special operation known as Ops Lima for alleged involvement in organised crime.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said the 46-year-old suspect, who was also believed to be a member of Geng TR, was arrested with the cooperation of authorities in India and Thailand while on a flight from Chennai, India, to Bangkok, Thailand, and was later brought back to Malaysia.

The suspect was arrested pursuant to a warrant issued by the Kuala Selangor Magistrate’s Court on April 17 and was also the subject of an Interpol Red Notice issued on May 7.
