Selangor KPDN issues nine notices to curb profiteering amid global uncertainties

SHAH ALAM, June 2 — The Selangor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) issued nine notices to traders in the state through Ops Kesan 6.0 to ensure there are no unreasonable price increases following the global economic uncertainties.

Selangor KPDN director Muhamad Hanif Asa’ari said the notices were issued under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 to obtain detailed information from the traders regarding the prices and costs of the goods involved.

He said the operation involved inspections of 46 stock keeping units (SKUs) covering categories of daily consumer necessities, as well as monitoring agricultural, livestock  and petrochemical products such as plastic packaging.

“The nine notices issued to the traders are an intervention measure and a deterrent to ensure traders remain vigilant and ethical, and do not take advantage of the current global situation.

“Inspections will continue and be expanded across various levels of the business supply chain, including producers, manufacturers, breeders, farmers, distributors and wholesalers throughout the duration of Ops Kesan 6.0 until August 31,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He stressed that any individual or company found to have increased prices unreasonably and in violation of anti-profiteering laws would face stern action, including imprisonment and fines upon conviction.

He said the Selangor KPDN is also open to providing advice on the basic principles and mechanisms for determining profiteering to ensure traders are always aware of the laws being enforced.
