SHAH ALAM, May 29 — Police have arrested seven secondary school students in Kota Kinabalu to assist investigations following a viral video involving the assault of a female student.
Acting Kota Kinabalu police chief Superintendent Syed Lot Syed Abdul Rahman said all the students were arrested at about 3 pm yesterday.
“The arrests involved six female students and one male student aged between 15 and 17.
“The male student is believed to have acted as the individual who recorded the entire incident,” he said when contacted yesterday, according to Berita Harian.
He said investigations are ongoing and the case is being investigated under Section 147 and Section 506 of the Penal Code.
Earlier, police launched investigations into the incident after receiving a report lodged by the victim herself a day after the incident.
Initial investigations found that the incident occurred at about 8 am on May 22 when the victim was allegedly assaulted by five female students.
As a result of the incident, the victim suffered bruises on both shoulders and legs, bruising on the left ear and a minor wound on the left knee.
All the students involved are believed to have known each other and communicated through a WhatsApp group known as ‘Angel’.
