KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 — Malaysia has maintained its firm stance in condemning acts of aggression and incursions in West Asia, including drone strikes and Israeli-United States military operations that have claimed innocent lives, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He added that he conveyed this stance to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during a phone call today.
“Thank God, I had the opportunity to hold a phone conversation with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, to extend Eid Mubarak greetings as well as fraternal salutations and prayers from all Malaysians for the people of Iran,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Anwar said that during the conversation, he expressed hope that Iran would soon return to peace and that tensions and bloodshed would be brought to an end via peaceful means and responsible diplomacy.
He also expressed appreciation for Iran’s support and cooperation in assisting the release and safe passage of Malaysian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz recently.
“Mutual respect and the spirit of friendship such as this must continue to be strengthened in relations between countries,” he said.
Meanwhile, Anwar said Pezeshkian also expressed appreciation for Malaysia’s consistent stance in upholding peace, justice and humanitarian principles at the international level.
He said the Iranian president also invited him to visit Tehran to strengthen bilateral ties and strategic cooperation.
“God willing, I will arrange my schedule to visit Iran at an appropriate time.
“Iran has always been close to my heart, especially as I have many friends and acquaintances there who continue to uphold knowledge, brotherhood and the universal struggle for humanity,” Anwar said.
